Health apps
Send workouts to Apple Health and Health Connect, and bring in sleep and heart rate.
Connecting a health app
iPhone connects to Apple Health, and Android to Health Connect. It's free.
- In Menu, open Apple Health (HealthKit) or Health Connect.
- Turn on Apple Health & Health Connect and allow what to share in the permission screen that appears.
The same screen also has Import watch workouts, Import the past year, and Merge duplicate workouts.
What's shared
Finished workouts go to the health app, and watch workouts, heart rate, sleep, and body weight come back in.
- Sent: finished strength and cardio workouts. Strength only is saved as strength training; mixed with cardio, as cross training.
- Read: workouts and heart rate from your watch and health app, plus sleep, HRV, resting heart rate, and body weight for readiness and recovery.
- Runs: the route (location and elevation), distance, and heart rate are written to the health app with the run. Values the health app has no place for are kept in a backup copy on the device, which goes only into backup files and isn't synced.
On Android, step permission is requested because steps are read along with workouts.
Importing watch workouts
Brings workouts from the last 30 days in your health app into your FitBoost records.
Tap Import watch workouts on the health app screen. Workouts FitBoost wrote are not imported again. For older workouts, Import the past year rereads a full year. Runs come in as runs; see Runs from your health app.
Runs from your health app
Runs (outdoor and treadmill) that other apps wrote to your health app become runs in FitBoost when you import them with Import watch workouts, and show up in running mode.
- Turn on workout sharing to the health app in the app you use. On iPhone, open the Garmin Connect app's settings → Connected Apps → Apple Health and turn sharing on (apps such as Strava also write to Apple Health). On Android, turn on Health Connect sharing in apps such as Garmin Connect, Samsung Health, and Strava.
- In FitBoost, connect the health app and tap Import watch workouts. To bring in earlier runs too, tap Import the past year.
- Open the imported run from Record in running mode to see its results, then share and customize it.
Imported runs count in running mode's history, stats, coach, weekly distance, and share studio, and treadmill runs come in as indoor runs. Distance and time come from the health app, and the route and heart rate are read again from the health app when you open the result screen. If the health app has no route, no route is shown. The first connection reads only the last 30 days; Import the past year rereads a full year and skips anything already imported. The Garmin runs not showing up? row on the same screen also shows how to turn sharing on. Each import always rereads at least the last 7 days, so runs that reached the health app late come in on the next import. Runs that came in as a single cardio line before 1.8.0 are also turned into runs if they fall in that window, keeping any name or note you edited. Other cardio such as cycling stays cardio. There's no direct Garmin Connect account link, so go through the health app or import a GPX or TCX file.
Merging duplicate workouts
When several records overlap at the same time, Merge duplicate workouts keeps just one.
It keeps the one logged in FitBoost, or the one with the most detail, and deletes the rest. Deleted records aren't imported again.
